Title: River Current Cables
Post by: Reverend on January 18, 2010, 09:58:30 PM
Hello everyone, I spoke about this briefly in the "Make Your Own Cables" thread but I'm pleased to announce our new speaker cable company called River Current Cables!
We are starting by placing our focus on high end speaker cables and will move into bi-amp and cable accessories.  Through a partnership with Tom, we will be selling these at Vintage HiFi of Pittsburgh.  We will have a few sets available in the next week or two to check out.  I would love for you to stop by the shop, audition these, and tell us what you think.  In the meantime, check us out at: www.rivercurrentcables.com (http://www.rivercurrentcables.com)

We do but we're not 100% on it yet.  We should have a number by this weekend but I can tell you they will be very affordable.

Thanks Bill.  Hopefully we've created a good quality, reasonably priced product.  We were hoping to have a few sets available this weekend but we ran into an issue with one of our suppliers.  It turned out to be a good thing as we found one well known high end brand is allowing distributors to make their product and slap their name on it.  That's a no no in my book.  It makes me wonder how many other companies are doing this.

We'll have sets available for the meeting on the 30th.  I'm looking forward to having everyone do some a/b testing at the shop and get your input/suggestions on how we can make the product better.  I'm also looking forward to meeting everyone as I've been a slacker and haven't been to a meeting yet.  :(

REV,

I think the above situation that you are speaking about happens quite often with these speaker cable companies, REV. ::)

It's truly  amazing to me the differences that cables can make and or the arguments that can be created on the subject.

Fine Strand Copper vs A Thicker Spiral Winding Copper And Whether You Should Run The Fine Strand To The Highs And The Thicker Spiral Wrap To The Lows, Or Even One Set Type To All Connections ?

We Then Can Even Get Into The Whole Copper vs Silver Thing As Well.....Is Silver Better For The Highs And Copper For The Lows, Or Vice-Versa. Or Even How About This Situation In This Category.....One Brand Comes Readily To Mind In Their Marketing Of Their 10 Gauge Cable(AcousticResearch). Get This....How About A Combination Of Both Silver And Copper In Where As The Silver And Copper Are Spirally Wrapped Together ? I Truly Wonder How That Combination Works ???? Like A Piece Of Cable "Knows" Where To Divert Its Signal To ? Geez.....In Other Words, Let's See "This Speaker Would Sound Better If I Use My Silver For The Highs And My Copper For The Lows, Or Again, Vice-Versa".

Who Knows ???? I Could Be Dead Ass Wrong On The Above About The Acoustic Reasearch Cable ? It Could Very Well Be The "Best Of Both Worlds" ?

I'm Really Looking Forward To Getting Together With You In Enjoying And Examining This Subject, REV. Can't Wait Really......

Above All Else And For What It's Worth To You ?....I Can't Begin To Tell How Truly Impressed I Am With You In Having The Guts To Start A Company Like This For Yourself. I'm Humbled And Totally Blown Away......WOW !! I Just Don't Get To See And Hear About To Many People  Often, Who Are Passionate About Something And Then Making It And Turning It Into Reality, And You've Done That My Friend. I Can't Tell You How Happy And Excited I Am For You REV. It's Totally Awesome That You Are Doing This.

So Until We Get Together In The Next Couple Of Weeks......All The Best REV, Now And In The Future.

Sincerely, BILL(BB3)

REV,

I saw your cables at the last meeting :o, my god do they look nice. I'll try to get together with Tom on a Tuesday at the store when I have a little more time to give them a serious listen.

As of right now and for what it's worth, I am very very impressed. :) Now one thing remains............I've got to get the word out for you REV on the streets on how nice the River Current Cables really are. ;) ;D

Sincerely, BILL(BB3)

Thanks Bill, I appreciate it.  We have our material suppliers all locked in finally, we had to make some changes due to availability.  Here's some things that we've been working on lately:

1) Revamped the website and added a few more things like projects/news page - www.rivercurrentcables.com (http://www.rivercurrentcables.com)

2) Completed our testing of our bi-ampable cables.  These things are monsters!  Around 1" thick, still very flexible, great sound.  We did some A/B testing with a pair of Magnepan 1.6QR's and my buddy's new pair of Klipsch WF-35's.  Wow!

3) We're playing around with a cable with an inline module that would have variable resistance settings.

4) Most importantly, we're working on getting some t-shirts made so Tom doesn't have to keep buying that Canadian swill to clothe himself

Please spread the word.  If anyone has questions, comments or suggestions my e-mail address is listed on the forum and on the website.  It seems we're getting a lot of interest in custom sizes, custom installations such as 3 or 5 channel setups.  We're happy to oblige.

Attached is a photo of one of our assembly sessions.

What i tried the other day was with all this snow outside I filled up one of my good Coleman coolers and ran my monster cables threw the lid and made a coil with the snow all around and let that stuff get nice and cold.Boy what a difference in the sound with that wire ICE COLD,that was on my solid state gear. Now for the tube stuff i used the same cooler and a fish tank heater to warm that melted snow to a nice luke warm temp 81.5f to put some resistance in the line. The heat worked better for the tube stuff but not the ss. I have to keep up with this I think dry ice will be my next move.I will update asap

You could always try a cool-can like bracket racers do. Its a metal can that the fuel lines are coiled through that is full of ice. Colder fuel =more RWHP. Colder wires=better sound????

Nice website.  I have been to Tom's shop and I have to say, I am impressed.  The build quality is very top notch and good looking to boot!  Good luck with your venture.  If you keep the prices reasonable, you should be able to fair well vs some of the larger players and their snake oil tactics.

Just some good reading here, should shed a little light on the subject.

And yes the same 16ga wire is used for the rc cables in the same truck.

Maybe I'll call my friend that works for nep and you can tell him that everything will be sound a lot better with BIGGER WIRE and to forget what the ee's have concluded on this subject.NOT. lmao.

I guess those electrical engineers don't have a clue, what do they know anyway.

Great, then if you don't forsee any price increases within the next month, I'll pick up a pair at Tom's shop when I visit in mid-April.  (Planning on coming around then).  This way I can give both of you the business .... if ya' know what I mean!! :P :P

No, seriously, I will be picking a pair up in April when I come down.  Most likely the week of Apri 19th.  Trying to coordinate with our schools spring break, this way my wife won't have to give up a weeks worth of pay because she won't have anyone to get the kids on or off the bus.

Thanks go out to Chris, Sean, Don, and Brian for buying our cables/jumpers recently.  Thanks to Tom for helping with sales.  Sean was nice enough to submit a review which was added to our website.  I also took a few pictures of the cables in action at the shop and posted them on the new Picture page.

Title: River Current Cables Interconnects
Post by: Reverend on June 14, 2011, 10:34:43 AM
So the question has been raised numerous times about interconnects, whether we'd be making them.  I finally decided to give it a try after testing out numerous materials.  I'm happy to say I think we found one that will work/sound very well.  A couple demo pairs will be at the shop later this week for everyone to check out.  As always, I need feedback to make these products the best they can be.  Pricing is still a question until I can confirm the current materials/design but they will be cheap.

Do you offer locking RCAs or XLR connectors?

I can put locking rca connectors on them for an additional cost.
XLR connectors would use a completely different type of cable.

As I mentioned before, pricing is still a question until I make sure the demo process is ok and materials are figured out.  Since i've been using compression fitted connectors i'd have to make sure that there are no issues with the locking rca's.  This has more to do with the type of cable i'm using.

I will say that the wife and I were doing a/b testing last night.  I've been using a well known brand between my pre-amp/amp, and were amazed at the clarity of ours.  So much cleaner.
