Craigslist Buyer to Avoid - Ray a.k.a. rockitred800@yahoo.com>

This local trolled me for several weeks claiming he was going to buy a receiver.  I made the mistake of following along and answering questions, sending detailed pics.  I took the equipment off the rack, cleaned it, and generally got it ready for delivery - he never showed. Avoid if contacted.

That makes two of us.

My take - if you were going to buy something from someone and decide not to, for whatever reason, just man up and say it - apologize and move on.  That is cool by me.  This guy just kept moving the date and providing excuses.

I've only bought 2 items off Craigslist, but nearly had a problem with the first. Unlike the hated "epray" there is no guarantee and most of the time you are driving a good distance and taking a chance that the seller will sell and the product will be as advertised. Both times I've drove over 2 hours one way and chanced it...there is no end to what we will do for OCCD!!!!!

That's my email address, Pepe. I wasn't pulling your chain. I still intend on buying it.

Serious? No. Half schwasted? Guilty.

I've had some lousy CL experiences. The Polk RT400's recently.

I don't know if it was the same guy, but I had the exact same situation with a receiver I was trying to sell on craigslist.  I sent the guy my cell number so we could set up a meet, and he proceeded to message me constantly for 2-3 months without ever following through.  Finally I just quit responding.  What an asshole.
When I die I hope my wife doesn't sell my stuff for what I told her I paid for it.

Nothing beat when I drove an hour and a half for an SX 1050 only to get a phone call from the guy saying he is giving it to his uncle.

I, personally, have never had a problem with CL.  In fact, that's how I became familiar with Vintage Hi-Fi and this forum.  CL, in some ways, is better than eBay, because you get a "face to face" with the seller and can inspect the item before purchase.

My only negative Internet buying experience was with eBay.  I received a unit with a damaged faceplate because of lousy packing.  The seller claimed it was packaged properly, even after I sent pics of the damage.  I got a replacement faceplate from EncompassParts.com and left negative feedback.

(Bill:  Denon AVP-8000 -> classic - great preamp)

I just received a Yamaha receiver from an ebay seller.  Seller shipped it in the original box.  I do not understand why people do that!  ...the original box was neve meant to ship the unit by itself, IMO - it was optimized for factory to distribution center movement stacked in pallets.   This one made it to me ok,  but that box is done - the styrofoam templates are in pieces.  Ship box-in-a-box!

Just request it...I know I've got alot in factory box items lately and the cheapest way to do it is to surround the factory box with heavy brown wrap...works like a charm and no need for an extra box!!! Doesn't destroy the outside graphics!!!

Thank you.  It was an eBay score @ 12% of original retail.  Spotless.  There IS a God in heaven.
