A long review on Tom's C-19 Mod

I have been modifying stereo equipment since I started with Audio Gallery back in the 90's.
I found that everything can be modified to improve its sound.
I modified my own equipment to a point where its sounds exactly like a live classical concert.
I can still modify it even further but the cost is high and I'm happy with it now.

I also need to bring in my Rotel RSP-1098 and have the Op-Amps sockets installed in it so I can put in the op Amps I want to try on it.    Tough parting with the unit for the time it'll take for you guys to put them in...

I used a Magnavox/Philips FD1040 cd player as my test bed for op-amps.
But I learned the highs sound pinched if you listen with the top cover off.

I still have that CD player and it still sounds better than most of the CD players I compare it to.
Of course its had a lot of mods.

But I'd rather have a Sony SCD-1.

I expected the SCD-1 comment - will reset the counter - but what is this:  "But I learned the highs sound pinched if you listen with the top cover off."  Are you serious?

yup gotta remember to put the cover back on every time I change the op-amps.

First time I noticed I was trying some expensive high quality op-amps and I didn't understand why the highs sounded bad but then I put the cover on and the the highs sounded good.

Remember this is a cheap cd player and the case is plastic except for the top.
Sorry its a model 2041 not 1040 but I have a 1040 I plan to modify someday(much better chassis than the 2041).
