Seized pot
« on: July 10, 2011, 04:34:13 PM »
No, it's not what it sounds like.   Law enforcement was not involved.

Two of the potentiometers in my Scott console find are completely seized.   Won't move at all.   I have DeOxit and have used it in scratchy pots, but I'm wondering if it would just be a waste to use it here.   Should I give it a go?   Is there a chance of restoring the originals or should I not waste the time and materials and just try to find replacements?

Thanks.

Are the pots actually rusty ?
Or are they just stuck ?
there's another trick if soaking with de-oxit or wd-40 doesn't work.
Ohhh don't get any wd-40 inside the pot or it will cause problems.
The trick is to heat up the shaft of the pot while trying to break it loose.

I don't think they are rusty, there is none that I see.   Did I say something to give that impression or is that in answer to the WD-40 suggestion?   I'll hit them with DeOxit a few days in a row and if that doesn't solve anything I'll try the soldering iron trick.   That seems like a good idea.   Besides, what have I got to lose?
