Remote not working...
« on: August 10, 2012, 09:02:28 AM »
I have a Samsung dvd remote which is not working to control the player...  I checked and the remote is giving a infared signal from the led (led is flashing)...

Any thoughts as to why the remote is not working???

TIA,
George

Hi George!

I assume you checked the batteries?  Or, if there is a switch on the remote for the TV or other devices that might be set incorrectly?

Carl,
thanks for the reply...  I replaced a few sets of GOOD batteries, no help...  The infared led lights/transmits...  No switch...

I have another Samsung remote that works perfectly, don't understand why this one doesn't???  Looks like Tom may have more recycled stuff!   ;D

Do any of the functions work, or I take it none of them?  If you can get it open, it might just need to be cleaned.  Some remotes have a molded rubber type pad that fits into the plastic front and forms the buttons.  The back side contacts a circuit board that might have oxidized and can be cleaned in a fashion similar to cleaning other controls.  I learned this after spilling a glass of orange juice on one of mine.
Mac stuff, Sony HDR-F1HD AM/FM/HD tuner, Denon DRS 810 cassette, Denon CDR-W1500 CD recorder, Music Hall MMF-9 w/B&O MMC2, B & O 4002 w/B & O 20 CL, Revox A-77

MacG,
thanks for reply...

None of the functions respond...  After I changed the GOOD batteries (a few days ago) I dismantled the remote, removing the rubber pad from the circuit board (cb) and rubbed deoxit over the cb to clean, unfortunately, no response from the remote still...

But I did not clean the back of the rubber pad?  I tried cleaning the back of the rubber pad also, no luck...   :(

Thanks...
George

Infrared is invisible.   The LED flashing doesn't mean that there is infrared.

Mark,
you are correct, that infrared is invisible to the naked eye, but looking thru a digital camera (which I did) you can clearly see the infrared beam...

And it was flashing!   :D

Actually, I do have something.   Perhaps it is not the remote that has gone faulty but the remote sensor in the DVD player.   Have you tried a universal?

I like my Logitech Harmony 650. Had to get it when my Rotel RR-969 crapped out.
Lots cheaper than the Rotel & it runs my entire system.
Easy set-up via USB/internet with simple-to-construct macro's.

OTOH, I just saw my freind's Samsung tablet that has IR capability with apps for all types of gear and runs his FooBar, too.
Too cool, I think I may get one just for this reason!
....just an "ON" switch, Please!
