Penncrest 7704A-46

Greetings, folks!

I own a Penncrest model 7704A-46 all-tube hi-fi. Love the thing, but it has FILTHY pots that scratch like crazy, and needless to say, at this point, it's compromising the sound. The wrong knob twist causes a speaker to drop out, or certain frequencies to temporarily disappear. I cannot figure out how to access the pots to clean them without dismantling the cabinet. Anyone have any pointers? Thanks in advance.

I would suspect that the cabinet back is removable.   Then the unit (after you remove the knobs perhaps) should slide out to the rear.   There may be brackets inside holding the unit in place.   This is how it has been with any console I've opened up.

Thanks for the response! Actually, the back panel was long gone when I bought it, but I frankly can't even see where to begin removing the amp (no visible screws - again, it seems like I'd have to remove the top panel or something). Anytime I've attempted to remove the front panel (the glass with the radio band), it acts like it's going to break. I think I may be a little out of my league with this one.

If you pull the front panel knobs, there may be hex nuts on the knob shafts.  It may require hex nut drivers to get at the nuts; deep sockets may also work..

Welcome kinglayaway  ...I had an old Maganavox console my father gave to me for my 15th birthday. Gave it away when I moved. Wish I had it now...I remember the tubes inside were encased in sleeves. Had a sweet sound through those "twin bull horn" speakers.
