Nad c541

I picked up a non functioning nad c541 cd player this weekend, opened it up and I think I have the problem isolated... The laser moves like it's trying to read the cd and the spindle spins without a cd, but when a cd is put in it doesnt spin. I just ordered a new laser mechanism and assembly, which I'm hoping is the problem... If any one has had a similar issue and has some advice to give, any help is greatly appreciated.
