I didn't read the thread in detail but Stephen and I had the Chiro c-200 at my house for a while and tested it directly beside the Emotiva XPA-2. The sounded almost identical to my ears, you can't go wrong either way. The Chiro is better build quality, the Emotiva is big power. I don't have much experience with anything else mentioned in the thread with the exception of Adcom. I've heard some Adcom pres and power and never really cared for them. Nothing exciting there!

Alright...

So I have upped my budget up to around $1000 for the amp!  (sorry wallet...   >:( )

So these are my new choices in order.  Used obviously.  Can anyone compare these to each other?  Thanks again.  I just want to make sure I get this right the first time.

Odyssey Stratos (still tempted to buy this new....hmmmm)
McCormack DNA-1
Bryston 4b (st and newer are expensive)
PS Audio 200c
Onkyo Integra M-508
Adcom GFA-555

http://www.odysseyaudio.com/products-khartago-stereo.html

This Odyssey Khartago amp got rave reviews a few years ago and is cheaper than the Stratos.

Really depends on your speakers though.

I vote for the McCormack DNA-1

+1, That McCormack is an ass kicker.  One of the best solid state amps i've ever heard.

@BMW:  I am afraid that the Khartago will not have enough power.  My 3-way 83dB efficient 6-ohm speakers really like the power.....

Take Falcon's advice.  He knows what he is talking about and he has told me on several occasions the DNA-1  was the bomb!  BUY IT!  You can thank him later.

I say either the Big Mac or the Onkyo!

In any case, I don't think you'll be dissatisfied.

Not on your list but I am happier with the sound of the Golden Tube SE 100 amplifier than any other amp I have ever used.  It can be had for around 1000.  No affiliation to this one. http://app.audiogon.com/listings/tube-golden-tube-audio-se-100-100-wpc-tube-amp-2013-10-06-amplifiers-60585

At $1,000 there is a huge list of amplifiers that can be found!  Good tubes will make a huge difference with the SE100 amplifiers.  I learned that the hard way.  Don't skimp once you can afford to put good tubes in, assuming you go this route.
Speakers: Nearfield Acoustics Pipedreams Reference 18
Amplifier:
Mark Levinson ML3 (subs)
Phison A2.120SE (towers)
Preamplifier/DAC/Phono: Phison PD2SE
Server: Pi & NUC
Turntable: VPI HR-X, VdH Colibri XGW

Thank you for your suggestion StevenWVU.  However, I want to stay away from tubes with these speakers.

  • Tubes are for boobs
    • This is Bullshit
I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

I have a Classe DR Ten for sale, a nice amp but not as powerful as the McCormack DNA-1 which I owned also and loved.  If you are interested PM me for a price, if not, I vote for the McCormack.  Good hunting, Nick
