Hello & Happy Christmas from Padre E.T.
« on: December 17, 2013, 12:17:27 AM »
A new friend of mine who frequents Vintage Hi-Fi recommended that I join this forum and say, "hello" to Tom the owner.  I am new to this hobby.  I started listening to music again after figuring out what was missing when mp3's became common.  Now I have returned to uncompressed wavs or lossless formats and am interested in analog too.  My adventure began with looking for a turntable to play some of my parents records.  The proverbial "camel's nose is in the tent."  I am now looking to learn more about the hi-fi community, as I learn more about the hobby.  I plan to build a small natural sounding system on a budget that travels reasonably well, as I have to move frequently for work and space limited.

Happy Christmas all,
Padre E.T.

Welcome!

How small?   Are we talking mini receiver or just bookshelf speakers?   Lots of good stuff to be found.

I like Kingman's signature line which could be reworded as "Sound is in the ear of the hearer."

Kingman had asked me what music do I like:

I like music ranging from classical, big band, classic rock (on the lighter side here, nothing to raucous), light jazz, musicals, choral music, especially Gregorian chant (hence the Padre part of my user name), even some Doo Wop.  Also these music types en Français too; an Irish Christian Brother who taught French in high school was one of my best teachers.

I grew up in the Ukranian Orthodox Church and was an opera major in college.   I've spent a bit of time with Gregorian Chant myself.
