I got it out, ran it through basic functions, forward, reverse, play in both directions. Lights and meters work. I listened to play through headphones as I don't have time to hook it up to a system, and noticed a couple of "dropouts" now and then that were randomly in either channel - this could be from the tape that I grabbed out of the pile, but I don't know for sure. visually the face is very nice, with a couple of small nicks on the plate that says "Pioneer", and the top has some glue residue. I noticed that the previous owner had wired a cooling fan inside the unit which you can definitely hear from a few feet away. It looks like it would be simple to remove. I would figure that this deck needs a basic maintenance and "going through"; also the heads visually look ok but I can't vouch for their condition. I also have a number of metal reels, a couple of blank tapes, and some recordings that the previous owner seems to have dubbed from records or classical radio. I downloaded the user manual. $200 as-is including the other stuff.
