Nu Force uDAC-3
« on: March 30, 2014, 11:25:46 PM »
The Sony TL-6's are revealing serious shortcomings of my computers internal DAC running straight off the moterboard no less.
I've been look for an inexpensive 24bit/96kHz USB solution.

Below is a link of a unit that I've been eyeballing

https://www.nuforce.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=687:udac-3&Itemid=2746

I know very little about DAC's,
Advice anyone?

The HRT Music Streamer is also very good.  Check out the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Music-Streamer-High-Resolution-Converter/dp/B0038O4UFQ

I'm probably going to buy a DAC in the next few months.  My budget is $200.00.  All of the above are on my list, plus the Schiit Modi: http://schiit.com/products/modi.

If you decide down the road to record something digitally, it is nice to have ADC as well as DAC.   OBG has been pleased with the Focusrite 2i2 that I suggested to him.

I would stay away from nuforce. See this article:

http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/nuforce-udac-2-drama.html

I use an Odac which was designed by the author of that article:

http://www.jdslabs.com/products/46/standalone-odac/

I've also heard very good things about the modi, the HRT, and the Focusrite.
Desk:
ObjectiveDAC, Technics SL-1500 w/ Grado Black Cart -> NAD 1000 pre -> Emotiva Airmotiv 4
Bedroom:
Creek 4330R -> DefTech StudioMonitor 450
Home Theater:
Onkyo TX-NR809, Rotel RB-981 -> Boston Acoustics VR-40, VR-12 Center, Soundware surrounds, Velodyne VRP-1200

I like their claims.  especially the low jitter.  OK so far this one gets my vote.  thanks for the "heads-up"

I really wanted to get the Schiit when I bought my DACmagic, but it's not until the $349 range that they have the inputs I needed.  They supposedly make great DACs though.
preamp: BAT VK-5
amp: Altec 944sa
DAC:  Bel Canto 2.5
CDP: Pioneer Elite DV-47a
Intel NUC server / iFi micro iUSB3.0 / Roon
