Advent Legacy woofer original?
« on: July 13, 2014, 09:41:27 AM »
Can anyone tell me if this looks like original Advent woofer?  Or can I ID it if I remove and see a serial number on rear of speaker?  thanks

You should be able to id it by the numbers written on the speaker.  That rust looks suspect. .

Pulled both woofers and they are the same part number 15152278.   They both had what looked like a little red spray paint on the magnet.  Maybe that would be from Advent quality control?   I had them hooked up and they sound pretty nice.  Naturally would prefer that they are all original parts.  The cabinets are beat and will be my first refinish job and one of the grills had cat damage and will need replaced.

If it were me, I would pull the gaskets and lift the foam, hit that rust with a Dremel and some black Rust Oleum.

I'd also lose the screws and install some proper t-nuts.

Emp...  From my memory, those are NOT the original Advent Legacy woofers...

See link below, but the original had foam surrounds and had "ribbing" near the outer edge as the photo link below shows...

Plus, they only have four bolt holes instead of eight.   Good eye, gdv.

That sort of looks like a Bose woofer to me.  I recall a set of 301's I redid with that flat spot in the middle of the dust cap, and leads through the cone.

Those may be original woofers from an older model Advent, but, they are not Legacy woofers.

I had a set of Legacy II's - The drivers had a few sets of "rings" toward the outer perimeter of the cone. Additionally the dust covers were very thin and fully convex. Legacy III's are similar. Legacy I's, I'm not 100% sure of, but doing photo searches on Legacy I's does not turn up a woofer similar to what you've got.

I agree with Dicky that it looks like a Blose woofer, BUT Emp's has a rubber surround & Blose had foams...

I couldn't see that they were rubber... Yes Bose would never do something so smart
