HELLO HELLO HELLO, IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?
« on: September 02, 2015, 06:44:49 PM »
Where oh where can my turntable be,
Where oh where can it be,
I left it with Tom six months ago
and he hasn't seen fit to call me

How about another tune to budge Tom from his phone phobia/lethargy:

I'm still waiting
Still waiting...

or maybe

I once met a fella named Tom
Who left the dirty work to his mom
She called me to say
He was to look at it Sunday
And yet a turntable I have none

Hey Rifleman - appreciate your agony,  but do want to ask you to contribute something to the forum other than complaining about the shop's delayed response to your concerns.   Your membership in this forum assumes you will share info of interest to the membership.

Can you tell us something about what equipment you are using?   Are you into vinyl?  tapes?  Are you a ribbon or dome tweeter dude?  Just share anything other than your complaints about Tom,  to even things out.

Thanks!

OBG,

I have been by Tom's place twice in the past month and spent quality time with his mom on both occasions. A lovely woman I might add. OBG, it's been six months. The phone might as well not exist and his mom offered me assurances(twice) that he would call(and he hasn't) and later that he would look at my turntable last Sunday(have no idea if he did). I viewed this forum as a last resort and that is failing miserably as well. What would you suggest?

In the interests of using the forum in a more conventional way, I am far more a music lover than an equipment lover. I saw Death from Above 1979 this summer at Altar Bar and Built to Spill in Brooklyn. I'm looking forward to Godspeed You! Black Emperor at Carnegie Library and Built to Spill at Mr. Smalls. If my finances weren't so limited, I would probably spring for the upcoming Television show.

I've returned to vinyl after a long hiatus and am very glad to have done so. Only wish new recordings on vinyl weren't so pricey.

Golden Ear Aon 3
Bang and Olufsen turntable with Soundsmith SMMC20E cartridge(when it works properly)
Harmon Kardon 3490 receiver
Sonic Maximizer processor
Bic Acoustic PL-200 SUB

Hehe - I like Tom's mom too,  including her obsession with crossword puzzles.

I promise to ask Tom where your table is next time I see him.

Golden Ear Aons = great speakers.  I bought a HT set from Northern Hills, a local dealer,  and that is using Triton 7s in the front, thought I was close to getting the Aons.  Once you hear ribbons it is hard to go back to anything else.

Regards

Greetings and welcome Rifleman.  Is it your 20EN cart or the B&O table that don't always work properly?  Soundsmith should make the Cart right, if that's it.  There are B&O tables on Craig's List,  and very reasonably priced (probably less than repair costs)

Agree - Soundsmith has really good service in general and a niche focus on b&o carts.

And upon re-reading,  I mis-wrote,  Tom's mom is obsessed with jigsaw puzzles,  not crossword.   :(|)

I thought you meant jigsaw, but I figured that maybe she took up a new hobby.

I always stayed away from B&O just because the only options are used carts or Soundsmith.  I can't commit to something that limited.

And OBG is right; once you go ribbons, there's no going back.

Another vote for ribbons!
