Dual 1257 TT
« on: December 29, 2015, 06:47:29 PM »
I recently found this turntable.  Plugged it in and nothing, I did not test it any further.  Before I part it out, I wanted to give the forum a chance to own it.  Excellent condition (7/10 Agon scale) one small chip in the veneer on side.  Complete with paperwork, no box.

$25, PM me if interested.  Thank you for looking.  Nick

Here's my 1257, too many issues for it so I used it for some man cave art.

I presume that either the Robert Johnson record is a repro or that isn't really yours (or both).

If someone here or some other deserving soul got it, I hope it is just a belt.   But I know what you mean.

I could tell some tall tale of how I found the Robert Johnson at a yard sale or inside a Manilow jacket...in reality it's an old 78 with a printed out label using a low ink printer.

Since I have a box of parts for the 1257, I grabbed it. I'll get it running and set it up for my daughter and her kiddie records.

I made the resolution of no new equipment...it's not the new year yet!

Very nice!   I love that kind of creativity.

Nick, thanks for the TT. It works perfectly. The belt had slipped off and one lever underneath needed cleaned, lubed and repositioned. It wasn't moving far enough to cut the power off at the end of a cycle. Other than that, it has to be one of the cleanest Duals underneath I've seen and the top is like new.

I even had the stacker going last night, I don't condone stackers, but for half beat $1 records it's pretty neat.

Cool - that is a great classic TT.  Do not flip it!   (if you do please send Nick a nice bottle of scotch or a case of fish beer,  or something...).   You got a bargain - just the motor for that table goes for 50 bucks in good shape.

Absolutely not flipping it! I run a retirement home for turntables. It's going into daily service while i do some work on the 1229. After that I'm going to set it up for my daughter and teach her how to responsibly use it. If anything goes wrong with it I got a box of parts for it.

Next up is rescuing a 1226 that was on CL. He claims it sat unused by an elderly woman for years. Just can't get enough of the old Duals.

Sweet!  I had a Dual decades ago.  I can't remember the model number at all.  I know it wasn't a 12xx model though.  I remember talking to an "audiophile" about it once.   He said "That's not a turntable. That's a record player".  Really?!?  WTF.   I was like 15 years old.  I got over it.  Sort of.  I guess.  :(
