Patricia Barber - Cafe Blue "Unmastered"
« on: March 13, 2016, 09:47:47 PM »
I recently picked up a copy of "Cafe Blue Unmastered"  Look here:  http://www.elusivedisc.com/Patricia-Barber-Cafe-Blue-UN-mastered-Hybrid-Stereo-SACD/productinfo/PREMSA90760/

I know a lot of music enthusiasts love the sound quality and the creative sound of this classic.  It's very popular to use this music for a system demo.  I love the open, airy sound.  However, I always thought some vocals were a little heavy on the reverb.  You can hear a lot of siblence on many of her vocals.

The unmastered version piqued my interest as I wondered if they took a lot of the extra reverb out.  Sure enough, the vocals on this version sounds better IMO.  Gone is the excessive reverb and siblence.  It does not sound substantially different, and maybe it's a matter of taste or preference.

I have several digital and analog versions of this.  I think the 45 RPM MFSL version of Cafe Blue is stunning!  It's still probably my favorite.

Anybody else hear this CD yet?  I highly recommend it!

I never heard any version of it. I'll see if I can check it out on TIDAL.
