I have a Thorens TD 165 purchased in 1975. I recently replaced the belt with an aftermarket brand and now it only plays at 45rpm. The belt will not stay in the 33rpm position. The lever is in place, etc., but the belt keeps slipping up. Should I bite the bullet and get the Thorens belt, or is it something else?
Thanks

I don't understand how it slides down with that lever up. With the belt in the hoop of the lever, I can't see how this would be a problem. I don't mean to ask a stupid question, but are you sure you installed it correctly? Perhaps you could give a picture of the belt/lever with the table in the 33 position.

Looks like a simple adjustment. Here is a link to the service manual...

Like Swiss watches those tables are built for precision. The wrong width, length, and/or thickness can cause havoc.
Did this problem exist with the other belt? That is, if the original was intact. Either way, I'd try another belt.

Thanks. I bit the bullet and bought a Thorens belt for $29. Works perfectly.
