Solid State Amps from mid 80's till late 90's, recap is a must?
(1/1)
cosmicjazz:
Greetings to all music lovers out there,
Recently I became more interested in solid state vintage amps and preamps, especially from some high end Japan made from mid 80's till late 90's.
Considering the equipments are in grate care condition, or even new old stock condition, recap, revise, change components, still is a vital process?
Let me know more about the subject, for what I know, is that all caps must be changed after 15 years or so...
Many thanks, best regards to all.

Rule of thumb: do not try to fix working stuff.
However, if you have real complains regarding sound quality - start with small value low voltage capacitors first.
Sir Thrift-a-Lot:
I'm running a 45 year old Marantz 2230 that I haven't done anything to. If I'm not mistaken it is cap coupled so I can't check offset to take it's temperature, I just have to trust my ears. If I ever retire with my faculties in tact I would like to do a rebuild. It does need several bulbs though.

My 2230 is all original and sounds good to me.
