Rockna DAC, Roon Nucleus/ Teddy Pardo power supply
« on: October 02, 2020, 07:01:39 PM »
As many of you know I've been struggling with getting my file music to sound decent enough to listen to instead of using it for back ground noise. I've recently tried a Mytek Brooklyn and a Phison DAC in addition to the Peachtree, IFI, a few Schitts lol etc. in the past,  and they all sounded pretty bad (to my ears).  I ended up buying a Rockna Wavelight DAC along with a Roon Nucleus with a Teddy Pardo power supply and it made ALL the difference. Music is now very nearly as good as my turntable! I truly believe that the main issue was using a computer (two different laptops and a normal computer) as the source. Even CD quality files sound surprisingly good, while DSD/ dsf files sound amazing.

a bunch of nice sounding stuff. Nice that I'm finally able to actually listen to file music for the first time...

Sounds intriguing!
Regular PC is very noisy, low quality source.

I was truly amazed by the difference. I could have, most likely, been satisfied with one of the alternative DACs if I'd bowed to getting rid of the laptop sooner lol. Last night, for the first time ever, I could actually sit and listen to file music while reading.... it was a very pleasant evening. More than once the music caught my attention and I just put the book down and listened  8)

Are your source(s) still the computers?  I've been listening to increasing amounts of digital, mostly via Tidal, but haven't yet fully figured out the MQA thing.  I also need to learn more about Roon.
Mac stuff, Sony HDR-F1HD AM/FM/HD tuner, Denon DRS 810 cassette, Denon CDR-W1500 CD recorder, Music Hall MMF-9 w/B&O MMC2, B & O 4002 w/B & O 20 CL, Revox A-77

no, my source is a 2T SSD drive... which sounds better than a standard drive to my ears. The drive plugs directly into the back of the Roon Nucleus.  I'm using a iPad which wirelessly shows everything on the drive and is the control panel.
