Sound cuts in and out with Sony STR-7015 amplifier/receiver

Hi everyone, first time poster here!

I have an old Sony STR-7015 amplifier and occasionally sound is lost through one or other of the speakers. If I then simply touch the volume dial the sound will return to the speaker so the connection is obviously there. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what may be causing this and any advise on how to resolve this issue?
