Mitsubitchy da p20

Just got this for a loaner from Tom last night and, damn is it a nice sounding pre!! Tommy, we gots to talk... I think I wanna make her mine ;).
Anyway, I have a question. After I initially hooked up I had a bunch of hum and not good sounds. I switched the polarity at the outlet and it went away. What causes this? Just a general curiosity query...
I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

I never had that problem before. I run conditioners on everything here.
