I attended the Capital Area Audiofest yesterday with a couple buddies. Gary Gill the organizer had a booth with some old stuff kicking around.
Low and behold I spied a pair of old I believe 1960s vintage Lowther Acoustas. They looked pretty rough so i asked him if they worked, I purchase a set of Klipsch Hereseys from him in the winter and he was spot on with his description of those. Anyway, he said yep i listened to them a bunch.
We arrived on a price and i loaded them up in my pick up. I didn't get to even try them untill 10:30 last night when I hooked them up to a Sophia Baby Amp. Sure enough they worked and sounded great until 11:30. My son informed me that it was close to midnight and he was trying to sleep....oh well. turned them off.
This morning I hooked them up to the Bottleheads I got from YSRACER and holy smokes they are awesome. Looks like a re org is in order for the 2 channel set up
The veneer is coming up in places but one speaker cover is intact. This is what they look like
Here is the other cover..I'll have to find something close to this fabric somewhere
Here's the other speaker, classic full range Lowther driver set up
Here's a close up of the PM 6 driver
Course i had to take it out and look at it, check out that magnet
And the name plate on the magnet
The drivers are perfect and the sound is just stunning. I'd love to try these on a 300b SET amp sometime.
Anyway, that's my find of the week
