Just scored a Marantz 2240 receiver need help
« on: July 14, 2010, 09:24:50 PM »
It's in great cosmetic shape with the wood case. It works but it needs help. I need advise on where to take/send it to have it restored to its former glory. Is there anywhere locally?

I would recommend Falcon377 or OCCD. Both do great work and could fix it up. They are good at both cleaning and fixing. If you search the forum you can see that both are very good. Like Falcon377 worked on a couple of McIntosh amps for Schwarcw.

Those are the links to the McIntosh amps that he worked on. If you want to contacted either of them you can just click on there name and send them a P.M. Hope that this will help you.

Nice score!  What are the issues you have?

Well, I haven't even hooked speakers up to it yet and I found that the headphone jack is broken. The jack won't stay in. I hooked a headphone amp to the pre outs to play with it and I found that the FM section needs work. It doesn’t pick up well and even with a strong signal it will not do stereo.

The AM section seems to work well but again a tune up wouldn't hurt.  All the lamps in the unit work. I don’t have a TT so I can’t check the phono section and I’ll try the line inputs once I hook up speakers.

I know at the very least the unit needs a complete recapping. I would like to have it completely rebuilt. Including changing out all the lamps for led’s. The guy at irebuildmarantz quoted me $250 for the restoration project. That involved shipping the unit to CA. I don’t know if I want to do that.
