Listening to 'Romantic Songs of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov' with soprano Nelly Lee and pianist Evegeny Shenderovich, on cassette. Most commercial cassettes sound bad to me, but many of these by MCA Classics sound pretty good, especially recognizing they use regular tape. The shell indicates it was recorded using Dolby HX Pro and Dolby B. It also has a "HiQ" logo on it - I wonder if that was indicative of lower speed recording to get a better copy or what. As often happens, these recordings sound decent with Dolby on but even better with it off.

I inherited this tape from Carl, who once brought a box full of tapes to PBJ's house and let us split the cache. I can't find anything about the tape on the internet (I tried every trick I know in Google advanced search). It is marked as "For Promotion Only, not Resale" on the case. I have three others from that catch, listening to them now - the second one is also sounding decent.
