I was tempted to order the Gary Clark LPs last night.   May order eventually.    Are the LPs good recordings/pressings? The web site does not say much - are they 180g?

Thanks

Neither are 180g. But they aren't dynaflex, either. Blak n Blu has a hype sticker mastered for vinyl at Sterling Sound. Double LP and it sounds good and spacious.

Live is also a double LP. Not everyone has the same opinion on live records. This is not horrible sounding, but it's not mastered for perfection either. I'm ok with that because it captures the essence of his raw, gritty, bluesy emotion. Over production may make it sound better, but it would sterilize the performance.

I don't have the same opinion.   The live one is the only one I have on vinyl and while it is a good performance, I find it to be aurally disappointing.   I'd love to get Blak n Blu.

Courtesy of STALs continuous monitoring of thrift stores for RCA Gold Seal stuff.    Great dynamic range on this recording.

Glad you liked it.   I actually usually skip the Gold Seal stuff, but I have never heard a bad Reiner.

Cat Power - Moon Pix

I found it at the thrift.   I almost never find vinyl from this century.   It sucks.   I'll get at least $15 for it though.

Queen - The Game, SACD rip to 352/52, down-converted by Jriver to 96/24.  Sounds pretty freaking good.

I saw Jersey Boys too...  It started slow but got better as time went on.  The sound was excellent, although I could have used a bit higher volume.

Listening to Beethoven piano sonata No. 23 in f minor, op.57 45rpm RCA direct to disc recording. Another find by STAL. Sounded great before,  sounds even better (quieter quiets) after cleaning in the VPI.  Excellent.

Yes.   When I gave that one to you I think I said it would benefit from a really good cleaning.   I'm looking forward to getting your impressions of the $100 RCM on Saturday.

Oh, and I can't stand Frankie Vallie.   No soul at all.   I guess that makes him perfect fodder for musical theater though.    >:D

Those direct to disc recordings do sound pretty good.
I have that one and quite a few others.
In a few months I may have a room for my stereo finally and I'll have a party and play some of those records.
