Title: singin in the rain
Post by: Slim-Shaddy on April 29, 2010, 11:44:05 PM
I am debating between the definitive technology AW6500 http://www.abt.com/product/34549/Definitive-Technology-AW6500.html?utm_source=scfroogle&utm_medium=sc&utm_campaign=froogle (http://www.abt.com/product/34549/Definitive-Technology-AW6500.html?utm_source=scfroogle&utm_medium=sc&utm_campaign=froogle) and the OSD AP 850s http://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/apmasepasp.html (http://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/apmasepasp.html) for my outdoor setup. They will be powered by a QSC model 1400 amp (200wpc). The deftech have a name which more times than not means almost everything, but I have read good things about the OSD speakers. What do you think?

I would go with the DT.  Though I would not buy new.  You can get used on eBay for about half MSRP.

At one time I was thinking about putting some outdoor speakers on my deck.  I decided not and just opened up the patio door and crank up the ALIII's. :D

Thanks for your input guys. I can get the deftechs for 160 a piece shipped. The thing about the OSDs that are making me hesitate is the fact that they are supposedly the best bang for your buck when it comes to outdoor speakers. They contract out to names like speakercraft and boston acoustics and then stamp their name on it and sell it for much less. Something like the lexicon version of Oppo's BD83. I don't want to pay for a name. It sucks that I can't audition them side by side :(

Well, I pulled the trigger. I ordered the deftechs. Both speakers had great reviews, but what it boiled down to was the name. I'll let you know how they sound once I get them hooked up.

They sound great. By far the best residential outdoor speakers I have ever heard.
