Title: Bang & Olufsen Turntable
Post by: RuralTom on January 06, 2014, 02:52:24 PM
Hiya All,

I've got a B&O Beogram RX2 sitting here at home that likely needs a new motor.  I'm curious if anyone knows folks who work on them and/or if it's even worth it at this juncture (have a Music Hall that I'm perfectly happy with at the moment).

 Thanks!

What exactly is/isn't the table doing?  Getting another motor will likely require that you buy a used donor unit and rob parts.  A working RX2 with out a cartridge should go for about $50 (maybe more if it's in excellent cosmetic shape), plus any shipping if you buy it on ebay (which I don't recommend).  It might be easier to simply look for another table, rob the good cosmetic parts from your table, if necessary, and install your cartridge.

Records played on it sound 'warped', for my own lack of better terminology; I suspect that the motor is shot.  This lil' VHFP shout out was likely my last gasp effort, parts from B&O aren't available and no good sounding RX2 listing has come up in a long time....  at a price I'm interested in paying.  I suppose I'll send it 'out to pasture', lol.

This is not a difficult task given your location.

Sorry if this question insults your intelligence, but I know nothing of your experience level.   When was the last time you changed the belt?

Just pokin' around and found this B & O  Rx table near Cleveland.  Looks nice, w/o cart @$85.  Seller will likely take less (most do)--

Have you tried both speeds? A bad belt is a good possibility, and might still work better at 45 than 33.

I haven't tried 45.... but then I don't have any 45s either.

Anybody live around Cleveland?

A much more likely culprit for the symptoms you describe than a bad motor.

Cool.  Thanks for the link...  I suppose even if it doesn't work, what's $30?

What is the condition of the current belt?

Great question, I'll have to look.  Never thought to look inside, I know next to nothing about electronics, TTs, etc.

The turntable platter lifts straight off.  A couple of bent paper clips slipped under the perimeter make it relatively easy
