it doesn't have to be great; it just has to work. a buddy of mine is getting into vinyl, and he was gifted a junker record player from someone in his family. it needs all new EVERYTHING. he's a college student, so he's broke, and i offered to take a look at it, but it's REALLY not worth putting any time into it, let alone money. i figured i'd see if anyone here had anything in their basement that probably won't see the light of day otherwise. thanks in advance.

Tables are drying up around here. I started my "give away systems" to find homes for yard sale tables that were supposed to be an upgrade from my Fisher but turned out not to be. Now tables are the hardest part to find. Lots of receivers and speakers.
I hope you are able to get your friend up and running.

yeah, i told him to save up a few hundred bucks and he can get something and maybe get a grado cart or something. i don't want to invest any of my own time or money into his current table because it's fubar. we'll see what happens.
-
What is his current table?
-
Maybe I have a parts unit.
-
it's not a turntable. it's one of those shit all-in-one record players.

LOL! Well said BJ!

I think Nick still has a few very nice tables that
he 'd sell . The ones I saw were priced less than. $150
if I remember correctly ... Not sure what his current inventory
is like.

I think you are right Jim. I last recall he had a Philips 312, if I am remembering correctly. Only 100 bucks.
-
Those Philips punch well above their weight class.
-
They definitely do and it is still up on CL. Has an ADC cart with it as well.
-
I still have a working Dual 1225 for sale for $50.
-
I don't know if he still has the Thorens I traded with him

If anyone wants it, I will take $50. Turntable works as it should but the stylus is at the end of its life.

Receiver and table. That is about what you would pay at the thrift. I'm sure it is a step up from your friend's "record player". If you get that, I'm sure I have some speakers I can throw in to your give away system.

I am pretty sure my Uncle has that table. Nice table, he's never had problems with it either. For $50 it's a real good snag.
