Title: New listening room update
Post by: EmperorNorton on April 05, 2018, 04:30:21 PM

Hello folks,

I wanted to post a couple pictures of the new listening room.  As a few of you know, my wife and I have been painting, carpeting, cleaning out and moving three rooms contents so I can have the largest extra room for a listening space.  My old room was a cluttered 11 x 10 room where I sat around 7 feet from the speakers.  The new room is 13 x 11 and I am about 9 feet back now, so that's nice.  In this cold weather, with window fans for ventilation, we painted all three rooms (two still had bare plaster walls after 25 years), often with very cold fingers and toes.

Next up, after tax season ends, is sorting through a few hundred records and CDs to decide what to keep and what to unload.

Its always something.....

Mike

Room to have multiple speaker pairs for comparisons...wonderful

Hey MacGeek

Yes, that's one of the reasons I was extra motivated to get this done.  The previous room was too small for that and I have several pairs that I think I want to A/B with the supposed goal of thinning the "hoard."  Right now the two pairs in the room are hooked to two different amps.  The Vandersteens  go with the Hafler 500 and CD player.  The Heresys are hooked up to the Heathkit SA-2 and Dual 721.  So its a tube system and a solid state.

Before I start comparing, I guess I will have to remove the Hafler from the chain since it has only one set of speaker outputs.

When I was using multiple speakers I used a Niles speaker switch/selector. Worked pretty well and maintains proper Ohms.

Good job on the room. Next time try some low VOC/low odor paint. Had to repaint the kitchen and the stuff barely smells.

Thanks for the tip on the Niles.  Think I've seen those online at some auction site in the past.

And thanks for the tip on the paitn but will only paint in summer or fall in future.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I have a Monster Cable speaker selector switch still in the box.   It's a heavy bugger.

I'd take $40 for it or would certainly be willing to trade for some of the vinyl you are thinning out.
