Title: Sunfire 405x5
Post by: OldiesButGoodies on September 06, 2014, 11:15:17 PM
I will be offering this  amp for sale on Ebay in a few days.  Forum price available via PM if interested.  It was completely recapped by Tom and sounds wonderful,  you can listen to it in advance of purchase.  I will keep i here for two days before moving to Epay etc.  Includes glass base,  original box and manual.

Thanks for looking ,

Thanks to those that inquired - I am holding on to this amp as a benchmark for any potential replacement.  If the new ones do better I keep them,  otherwise this one stays.  Looking at Krell, Aragon and, yes, Emotiva (spare me the hate for including the E brand here,  but I like 'em). If I could find a pair of 600x2s that would be the ticket,  but they do not pop up that often.  Also considering a set of tube HF set with SS for LF.  So a pair of Hurricanes would be of interest.  If you happen to see something for sale that may fit the bill let me know. Thanks!

Buddy of mine just got the Emotiva big ass monoblocks.  They sound great.  I won't talk smack on them at all after listening to those.  Absolute power houses too.

I love my emotiva.  I would like the mono blocks, but would settle for an XPA-2.  Still I don't have/want monstrous speakers, nor do I have the room, so the little XPA-200 does wonders.

Emovita... Sounds like an Italian chick who paints her fingernails black.

I've never heard the monoblocks, but, Dickys amp / preamp sound great. The build quality and styling are good too.

Shame they are in Greece.

I'd give that a look. Look on hifishark at what didn't sell and make an offer. Works well for me.  ;D

If you need a pair of high powered monoblocks, I know a guy who has a mint pair of Melos 402.  But, who really wants 400 watts of tube power?

The ad says they are sold.

Set of 402's would sound very good on your ribbons.  But you'd still need something for the low end.

That would be the shit.  2 pairs of 402's with a GK-1 pre.   :o

Conjugation can be tricky. Did you mean to write "I had" or "I have"?

Even if all you have is one pair I could be interested, provided you can accommodate independent evaluator(s) collaborating to help determine if the Melos amps kick the Sunfire's ass.  I would ask Jimmy Piitsburgh, OCCD and Reverend to serve as judges.  Or maybe just Jimmy P, as everyone else in that list is about to disappear into Carver Fest madness for one to two weeks.   If they are a good match for the Carver ribbons it could be worth it, to me anyway.
