Where does one get these analog CDs?
-
come on thrifty, be nice to the FNGs!
it really depends. i can't remember the model, but OCCD has a badass sony CD player. they're not all great, but every company has a gem or two.

Got a budget in mind?

Jerry's Records.
tbase - As MacGeek said, a budget is essential to helping point you in the right direction. There are also a few points that you should consider. Do you have or plan on running an external DAC? Do you want balanced or RCA interconnects? Fixed or variable volume? Etc..
For the cost of a good "vintage" unit, you may be better off buying a new offering from Oppo or a similar manufacturer. The lowered cost of manufacturing has made quite a few modern CD / DVD units a great bang for the buck!

Just meant in fun. Please FNGs, don't take offense at my smart mouth.

I love my Oppo. Got it late model used for $75. The thing that scares me off of vintage CD players is not knowing how much life the laser still has.

been staring at the "FNG" for a couple months now like.. "What the F does this mean" But I got it now!

How can I get mad at someone that got their forum name from sir mix a lot......By the way if the cd is AAD remastered it comes pretty close enough from my stand point.

depends on the player, but I'm looking to be below 500 unless I get another Cary than 1000.

Baby got bucks (but only enough to shop at the thrifts).

I might be able to sell you my carver 390t if interested. It has no remote but it does have bugle boys in it and was serviced by Tom.
-
That might have been serviced by me.
My reference cd player is my old Magnavox that I modified.
I bought it for $100 new but it now sounds like a multi thousand dollar cd player.
I doubt you can buy one used now for $100 because the CDM transport is worth alot of money now.
-
Any decent CDP with a GOOD offboard DAC will sound great.
-
rocking a denon dvd-5900 and love the sound.
-
I guess reference means different things to different people.

what would you say it means?
-
what would you say it means?
Esoteric, Musical Fidelity, Cary, Playback Designs, Ayon, EMM Labs, etc.
-
my 2 cents worth is anything that provides the sound that's close to a live production without enhancements is my idea of reference.
-
The definition of reference is Rev's system.
According to Rev.
>:D
-
Reference system? = no. Better than average? = yes. Better sounding then the Deeks? = without a doubt.
-
To me the term "reference" doesn't apply to a component/cd player because of the company or name brand. I think of reference in terms of what features it has. Cooper chasis, xlr jacks/balanced output, isolated power supply, (in the case of a cd player) special drive that requires a puck, weight or clamp. Tom has a "reference" cd player at the shop that is a Sony. Sounds awesome.

when i get back to pa. tomorrow I got to check out some A/V shops....where's some good one near dormont?
-
Not much in town anymore. Of course, there is Vintage Hi-Fi on Babcock Blvd. Northern Audio is also on Babcock, about 1 1/2 miles down the road. I think it's appointment only. In Natrona Heights, there is Butches Sound Shack. The old Listening Post in Shadyside is a part of Northern Audio now.
An hour from the North Hills is the Sound Shop, in Canfinld OH, on Rt 224.
If there are others, someone please chime in. I am interested as well.

Northern Audio has a shop in Aspinwall, actually two,one next to the other. Not so sure if Mark has one in Shadyside though. His one storefront has some awesome headphone and analog gear.Well worth looking into...
