Starting to research some changes to the TV/hardware set up here. I am considering buying my own WiFi modem along with a Roku. The modem will replace the Comcast wifi modem that I am currently paying a fee for each month and the Roku would go in place of the small TV modem currently being rented for $14.95 a month for the second TV. I have been told the Roku can be used to stream regular network programming, using the Comcast app that I would download.
If anyone here can share any feedback about using the Roku, I am all ears. thanks

I'm interested in modem recommendations.

Careful with the modem. Couple years ago my in laws got cable for the first time. Mother in law was not happy to pay rental fee on a modem so I was tasked with finding her an alternative. I don't recall the specifics, but I was unable to find a modem that was compatible with Comcast at a reasonable price. It might have been something to do with voice? Wish I could remember more.

I do income tax prep for a guy who works for Verizon and he recommended a Motorola MG7550 so probably going with that and a Roku ultra.. MG7550 is $149. These two items with replace the router and the second mdem both currently rented from Xfinity.
And if anyone is looking for a tax guy , I am always looking for a few new clients thx

Looks like Amazon can deliver the Motorola modem by July 10.
Onward to plan B.
can someone explain why I need the 'with voice" feature on the modem? Does it work with my Sprint cell phone service? we have Comcast for cable and internet
I think I am looking for a 300ps or up wifi/modem with voice. comcast page has three listed netgear, arris and motorola

I think "with voice" means you can plug a land line phone into it. Our Comcast modem has a phone jack for the land line as they no longer run separate wires for it. If you don't have a land line, I don't think you need "with voice".

I dropped my land line when I moved, but use the Comcast phone jack with a desktop speaker phone for conference calls. No extra charge and I don
