Title: New guy in town.
Post by: typethisin on September 30, 2010, 02:10:04 PM
Hey guys. My name is John. I have grown up with vintage music and I am one of the few my age (30) that has music LP's and 45's and actually listens to them. Hell I even have a portable stereo 8-track player that I love to break out and play some led zep or chicago out of my cartridge selection. I am good friends with Nick C. Who got me more into being a serious enthusiast. He hooked me up with a nice BIC turn table, pioneer cs-88's, pioneer cs-99's, and some better interconnect cables so I can feel my music more. I don't have the best amp/tuner, its an older panasonic, but it works for now. I hope to maybe move up to a carver c-1 or equivalent. I am just starting out as nick tells me but I am itching to explore the wide world of sound. I have always been in to stereos and speakers since childhood. Hell I made a column speaker out of twelve old console tv speakers which I salvaged from my dads garage. I even made my first sub-woofer enclosure with a 4 1/2" driver that hit to 50 hz at 25watts when I was 12. Since the pioneers that I acquired needed work I was excited because it gave me a chance to rebuild the horns in them and they sound good. I later will be redoing a set of speakers for nick for his bedroom set. I love music and love to feel it while listening. I am a guy who's volume knob does actually see 5 to 7. I love guitar and I play a little. When it comes down to it Page and Plant are my favs. So bring on the 60's and 70's rock. I am looking forward to seeing tom's shop first hand with nick. I will be like a kid in a candy store. I hope to eventually go with nick to one of your geek meetings. The experience sounds like a blast. I am here to learn and experience all that vintage equipment has to offer. Any advice to me a new guy I welcome. Please feel free to contact me.

Things are looking up for me. Got my hands on a technics su-7700 @ 50 pure watts per channel and it is making my cs-99's come alive. Omg what a difference a new power amp can do...;) I am stoked. I may be looking for a step up from the 99's in speakers now. Something with a little better low end. Any suggestions?

I am currently at 130 watts per channel...I want more power and more Db. Someone help me...hehehehe -in a dark voice- oh no the dark side. -i hear yoda in my head- "The dark side leads to overdiving speakers, which leads to frying voice coils, which can lead to destroying amps and polk killing." Omg. ;)
