Kinda typical, your weekend sounds fun King!

Last weekend I was not feeling very well so I did not do much. I did clean up some leaves but that is about it.
Now this weekend I am planning on getting a lot done.
1. Finish yard work. Cleaning up lots and lots of leaves.
2. Smoker will be going all day Saturday and Sunday. I am going to experament and try to smoke some deer.
3. Get my upstairs system up and running. I have not had it running since I broke it down for Carverfest. I've been really lazy!
4. In the middle of all this, drink some beer!
-
Tom...I plan on getting alot done every weekend but always seems that your last priority ends up being our first priority!!!!!
-
I did a bunch of work on my addition/listening room. Including putting this in...
-
We removed one of those when we moved into our house; insurance company did not like it living here. Walls had a sooty coating on them all over the house, and we could smell the burning smell for a couple years afterwards. We extended duct work out to the addition where it was and got a new furnace, high efficiency. Our heating bills went down by more than half. Still waiting to clean the walls more and paint....
hmmm, maybe I'll add painting to the Honey Do list for this weekend!!! ;)
-
Well I WAS proud... But thanks for raining on my parade bunni!! :-*
-
Ed,
What are you burning-wood, coal, pellets. Some things burn cleaner than others, but all leave some kind of evidence. Do you have a door to the sppace you can keep cosed? How about some pics of the rest of the project.
-
Burning wood. There is currently a door between the addition and the rest of the house, but that wall will be coming down. I will post pics once the room is done enough to move the stereo in.
-
Since i haven't been prospecting with my buddies for over a year, they demanded I attend the bonfire tomorrow night...or they will burn my new house down. :o
Plus I just got my new DAC to try ;D
-
Reviving a mantle clock project that my father started but left unfinished since I was a kid.
The goal is to present it to him for Christmas.
-
Hopeing I get home from Canada before Saturday starts. :'(
-

-
I almost don't know where to get started. My landcruiser showed up yesterday. I put it in the shop in June and told them to work on it as fill work because I wasn't in a hurry for it. Won't do that again.
I'm also trying not to drive down to Richmond to pick up a pair of Altec 511 horns on craigslist.
Plus I'm in the middle of the speaker shuffle, you know picked up a pair, put on a system, moved the old ones to another and so on and so one. Now it means moving pictures too.
Right now I am content having a cup of coffee, we'll see where the day goes
-
I'll work 8 hours at my regular job, then off to team trivia this evening. Saturday will be cutting trees (2nd job) & Sunday will be 4 years Karrie & I have been together~ :-)

Sunday: Visiting my Grandmother and Step Mother for Mothers Day
-
Vintedge - you ruined the scale for the rest of us - hard to top Paris! I am having a Lagunitas IPA while listening to a CD of the Dave Holland Big Band - 'What Goes ARound' - playing through the PSB Imagine Minis, with a Carver C-1 modded by Anders and the Sunfire 300 x 2 for power. The Carver C-1 is a great preamp, throws a wide soundstage and has a phono stage that kicks the ass of any modern built-in phono pre i have listened to recently.
-
OBG - haven't had a fam vacation since Mexico in 2006 so took the opportunity...Great to show the kids - going to a great guitar shop tomorrow.
-
Enjoy your vacation Ed!
I love Paris!

So....what was the buzz?
-
Loose speaker wire at the right speaker causing a buzz in the left???? It started all of a sudden so I knew it was some sort of loop connection issue.
-
Had a pretty good week and a visit from JerryR off the Carveraudio forum yesterday. Listened to a few tunes and got some Mexican chow before he had to continue his journey to Charlotte NC. Pennsylvania Maple Festival History
One scene that has become forever inseparable from a history of small-town America is a local store, a pot-bellied stove and a handful of men gathered around it. Proving no exception to the rule, any recounting of the history of our quiet rural community of Meyersdale must give special prominence to just such a Currier and Ives tableau. For it was actually around a potbellied stove of the Shipley Hardware Company Store, one blustery winter night some 60 years ago, that plans were formulated which, in the years since, have succeeded in launching Meyersdale into a position of international renown as "Maple City, USA" On that night a group of farseeing men had a vision--a celebration, a festival in Meyersdale to promote the sweetest of all Pennsylvania's commodities, our own Somerset County maple syrup, a Maple Festival--and that vision, that dream, became a reality.
The background for this amazing story of development and growth centers around that ever-popular American songstress, Miss Kate Smith. One day in the first part of 1947 Miss Smith, on her daily noontime broadcast, mentioned that she would appreciate a taste of some good Vermont maple syrup. Through the combined efforts of a few local citizens who accepted this as somewhat of a challenge, the idea of sending the radio star a sample of Somerset County's maple syrup was conceived and implemented. On her April 17, 1947, national broadcast, Miss Smith sang not only popular tunes but also the praises of our community's gift to her, pronouncing our local syrup to be the "sweetest she had ever tasted."
This publicity furnished the impetus for a hard-driving promotional campaign which began that May under the auspices of the Meyersdale Chamber of Commerce. However, as the long winter days began to loom ahead, enthusiasm waned, and it was not until that "summit of the potbellied stove," January 20, 1948, that this campaign received the final push it needed to start it on the road to success. With Chamber of Commerce President W. Hubert Lenhart at the helm, a planning committee was decided upon, and preparations for the very first Maple Festival to be held in Pennsylvania got under way.
It was on March 18, 1948, that this Somerset County Maple Festival, which was to play such an important part in the postwar development of Meyersdale and surrounding communities, took place. Pennsylvania's Governor Daniel B. Strickler, guest speaker, addressed a crowd of 1,500 gathered on Main Street in front of the New Colonial Hotel. His words of praise for our enterprising and industrious community were followed by the coronation of Miss Agnes Jean Hornbrook, who had earlier won the right to the title of Pennsylvania's Queen Maple I. US Rep. William F. Crow performed the honors. A dinner and tour of local maple camps concluded the day.
The story of Meyersdale's Maple Festival is one of growth. Froma handful of men gatheredaround a potbellied stove, it has come to include literally hundreds of workers. From a crowd of 1,500 spectators, it has become an attraction drawing tens of thousands of visitors annually. Today, to mention Meyersdale anywhere in Pennsylvania, anywhere in the tri-state area, and still very much farther than that, is to bring forth the reply, "Oh! the Maple Festival." The Maple Festival has truly succeeded in putting Meyersdale on the map. A search for the secret of this success leads one back to the community where it all started and back, too, to its citizens. Each year has found more and more people putting aside their differences and working together -- for the same cause -- with the knowledge that every Festival has made our Meyersdale a little more important, and better still, a nicer place in which to live.

-
I'm on call, so hopefully doing nothing but it remains to be seen.

Went to 31st street pub to see The Cheats/Flat tires. Fun, to smoky.
P.S They use a CARVER amp (integrated into the PA) to play songs and stuff in-between bands
Were playing a benefit gig Sunday in beaver county for a friend who OD'd on heroin a couple weeks ago. It was never determined but I think it was that theraflue BS. So stupid, so sad.

-
Spent Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Conneaut for the Pumpkin and Bluegrass Festival. Ate a gyro, BBQ chicken on a stick, a funnel cake, buttermilk pancakes with super thick bacon, wood fired pizza, and pulled pork nachos at various points throughout the trip. Heard a lot of good bluegrass including a dynamite cover of Jack & Diane. Drank a decent amount of Glen Dronach. Watched a 1000 lb. pumpkin dropped from 100 feet onto a car (an annual tradition at Conneaut). Hit up the yard sales of greater Meadville, which yielded nothing.
Now I'm trying to get caught up grading exams and assignments. :(
-
My parents live in Meadville and I have spent too much time there. The yard sales always suck.
-

They were mostly selling old tools at absurd prices. Nothing audio what so ever.
It was still a nice day to get out in country and relax.
-
OK Pittsburgh...WAKE UP!!!! What ya doing this weekend?????? Memorial day is for remembering those who died for our freedoms. I can't think of a more noble holiday to down a few cold ones and say ...."THANK YOU!!!!!" As for me....hanging at the house, cooking out and listening right now to Tesla.
-
Working today and Monday, no plans for Sunday.
-
I'm in the infield of Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca Cola 600 in N.C. Been doing it for 20+ years now...
Yeah NASCAR jumped the shark a while ago but it's a tradition.
-
Helping babysit a sick cat, going to the swap meet, prepping the Amazings' baffles for paint (at the moment inclined to go with metallic black) and fixing a few pieces of equipment. Watching the Monaco GP and the Indy 500 too.
-
On Memorial Day I will be playing taps for ceremonies at a large cemetery with about 15,000 veterans & solders KIA followed by two war memorials. All 3 venues have very nice ceremonies with the expected elected dignitaries and rifle team. I have been doing this for close to 10 years. My surgeon said no trumpet playing for quite a long time but he reluctantly agreed to let me play taps. I also play taps for the funerals of veterans and soldiers KIA. This is all done as a volunteer at no charge. I am assistant State Director for Bugles Across America.
-
PBJ, Kudos to you! I hope you are feeling well and your recovery is going as planned. Enjoy the day.
-
pbj, let us know how you are feeling after you play.
-
PBJ-that is very cool. Good luck and feel well.
-
Well everyone I had my mojo and nailed Taps all three times. To be honest I always do but admit today I was a bit nervous. I played through the pain and got a nice sunburn. I was on the 6 o'clock news on channel 2 at about 6:15. Almost scary as it was a real close-up as I was still playing. My parents saw it and called all excited. When I got home I just collapsed for a while. I recorded the news segment on DVR. Any way to copy that
-
Great news. Just record it onto a VCR or DVD Recorder as you play it back.
