Last Monday, I picked up a new set of speakers. I believe the search on that end is done for now.
Dunlavy SC-IVs, sound amazing, everything I've been looking for in a pair of speakers and then some. Wife likes them without grills, as much as I like them with them on. If she's willing to have a pair of 6 foot tall, 180 speakers fron and center in the living room, who am I to argue?

I look forward to hearing them.

very nice

I have heard a set. They were very nice! How is the sound stage in your set up?

In a word, gigantic. From what I've read, and now experienced, they would benefit from placement on the long wall -or overall larger room!- but I have neither to offer them at the moment. As is, they blow me away every time I've gotten a chance to sit down in my comfy chair and take them in... the speakers 'disappear' and a very rich and articulate soundstage eminates like nothing I've owned before.
I've been somewhat obsessed with procuring a pair of John Dunlavy-designed speakers ever since I heard Non-Prophets's Black Knights in his main rig this Spring. I won't say they are quite on that level -neither my upstream nor the SC-IVs are on that level- but it put the last nail in the Klipsch/horn coffin and likely allows me to stop searching and 'grow' into these.

Congrats!
Very nice speakers! Beautiful wood cabinets and a great sounding speaker! Enjoy! O0

Very nice indeed Tom. Im going to have to find some time to stop by if you dont mind and give them a listen. They do look gorgeous. Congrats on your acquisition.

Stop on in!

Tom - those are great speakers. I used to drool at them at Ovation Audio when I lived in Indianapolis in the 90s. Still have the brochures in my files, never could afford them new. Enjoy them!
I see you also have a Lexicon DC1 pre, another favorite of mine. Eli (Sunnydaze - don't think he is in the forum any more) is also hooked on them, he has two. Great sounding pres,

Tom probably got it from Elijah.

Thanks, OBG, I have been enjoying them and imagine I will be for quite a while.
I was impressed with the Lexicon when Elijah first got it in his rig a while back and decided to grab one from eBay when one came up. Very nice pre that I've preferred over any number of other options I've given a shot over the last year or so. Elijah now has a pair of Lexicons, one for each system.

I have heard those and they are absolutely fantastic speakers! Something to try, even if you don't keep them like it is to pull them into the room another 2 feet. It will probably make the soundstage a lot deeper. I have my pipedreams on the long wall and think I am going to redo the entire room setup to put them on the short wall. I find the short wall with the speakers brought into the room a decent amount to throw a MUCH deeper soundstage, maybe artificially deep. All the same, I like it more! Congrats on the very nice speakers!

I'll have to give it a shot, though it already has a rather large and encompassing soundstage and they are known to need a fair bit of room between speaker and listener for proper integration. Likely be somewhat temporary unless it presents vastly better, moving forward will begin to block the archway to the dining room and stretch the wife's acceptance level drastically, LOL.

I understand that! Positioning the Pipedreams never leaves a happy wifey...
