Title: Onkyo M-5000 review
Post by: mikey813 on June 13, 2010, 06:02:27 PM
Well I finally am getting around to the review. After very extensive Listening I am ready to review it. First I will tell you what music I used for my review. Warning it is a long list (to skip go to the 5th line down from the top): Donald Fagen Kamakiriad, Peter Gabriel So, Robert Plant " I forgot the name", Pink Floyd Animals, Diana Krall Love Scenes, Paul Hardcastle 2, Kenny G Breathless, Eagles Hell freezes over, and lastly the Alan Parsons Project Irobot, I also listened to a band called Adult only which you can download for free at http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/Adult_Only (http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/Adult_Only) It is a great site for artist to get discovered and find great music Plus it is free (Warning covers are kind of Graphic). Those are the ones I listened to on C.D. I also listened to Grand Funk Railroad Closer to Home, and Supertramp Breakfast In America. Those are the two I listened to on vinyl. It performed well on all of the above. It has amazing headroom and makes my Pioneer CS-R500s sound Amazing. It also has fantastic Highs as well. It is amazing how clear the highs and lows are. Some of the Cds you could really hear the detail and clarity of the highs and lows like in the second song on Paul Hardcastle 2. Also on the Adult only you could really tell how clear the highs and lows are. It is a fantastic test C.D and I think you should really try it in your system. (Warning watch your volume it has a lot of bass when you don't expect it). This is better than my Yamaha AX-400u  in every category. Like it has a more detailed high, More bass but it is not the boomy kind, and beautiful mids. I hope this was a good review. Here are some Pics of it and what I was comparing it to. Please tell me what you think since this is my first review. The first pic is of the Onkyo The second pic is of the Yamaha. The yamaha pic is not mine. I got it from http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/100835-yamaha_ax400u_amp_mmmc_input/ (http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/100835-yamaha_ax400u_amp_mmmc_input/)

Thanks for the review Mikey!  I have heard similar things about the older ONKYO gear.  I will have to try that download you discussed on your review.  Like to see what I think about it on my newest setup.

Great Job!!!
