Title: Did you know that Crate and Barrel sold records?
Post by: Sir Thrift-a-Lot on May 26, 2017, 09:55:58 PM
Evidently neither did anyone else, because they are on ridiculous clearance.

I just got...

Norah Jones "Come Away With Me" Remastered Vinyl Record. SKU: 254837 Clearance $9.97
The Beastie Boys "Paul's Boutique" Remastered Vinyl Record. SKU: 254724 Clearance $12.47
Miles Davis "Birth of the Cool" Remastered Vinyl Record. SKU: 255138 Clearance $9.97

The first two I've wanted for some time. I only know later Miles but couldn't pass it up for Ten Bux.

I could have easily picked up the Beck and Blind Melon too, but...you know... money.  :(

I never heard of Crate and Barrel. Are they a mail order only company? Do they charge for shipping on these clearance records?
Thx

Just ordered 12 albums, about $22 shipping and $10 in taxes.

Great tip!    I was able to score 6 albums for the collection from this sale - thanks!

Next up will be Cracker Barrel. Yes, they have records too.

I only see 31 choices, is that all of them?

Stay away from that Megadeth record, it's a 100% hack job.

I love that crate and barrel is selling real 180g vinyl for decorating purposes.  Must be nice to have too much money.

Dammit...if you go back to that page today, free shipping over $49. I called to try to add a couple to my order, but no dice.

Yep.   If that offer had been in effect when I ordered, I would have went ahead and gotten the Beck and Blind Melon rather than paying UPS.

I would of added Beck and Beastie Boys.

If anyone wants to combin an order, I'll place it. I think those two I listed are $25ish total.

I posted this in the "Listening" thread, but then thought maybe I should have put it here.   Sorry for the double post...

Yep, my Crate and Barrel order came today.   This record sounds great (I've heard complaints about the Capitol 75th vinyl).   Very quiet background and great mastering.   The bass is like a warm hug.   However, it is quite apparent why C&B didn't last long selling vinyl.   It was shipped in an oversize box, literally rattling around inside the box as I lifted it.   I opened it and there was a cursory piece of bubble wrap, just folded over the records.   Nothing securing them at all.   Worse yet, the album pictured above came from a case which some dope opened with a box cutter, slicing the spine in half.   If it weren't clearance it would be going back.   The other two records seemed to have fared much better, but if I open them and get any surprises I'll report back.

Crap - that is not encouraging. Still waiting for my six records to arrive.  Glad to hear sound is good.

Sound is really good.    "STERLING RJ" (Ray Janos) both sides of the deadwax. I've always had good luck with anything cut at Sterling, but this is a new engineer to me.

I know, what I described isn't good, but given the price and the sound, I would do it again.   There are reissues after all, not collectible first pressings

Mine showed up yesterday as well. Huge box for three records, but no damage. Haven't played any of them yet. I've also heard some not so good things about Capitol, but the pric was worth the risk.

All three sounded good, but Paul's Boutique sounded fantastic!   Did you get one?   Curious to hear your thoughts.   I know Nick ordered that title, maybe he will have an opinion as well.

I received all of mine, 12 albums wrapped in about 2-4" of bubble wrap in an oversized box.  Everything arrived safely, only curious thing i noticed was the white album had a made in Germany sticker on it.

I am not going to listen to anything for at least 6 months maybe longer, much, much longer.  But, my new vinyl collection is growing.

So, no updates coming from me.  Good luck to everyone else.

If I knew for sure I'd get German ones I would order.   The US Rainbow pressings suck.

This statement gives more questions than answers.

I did not get Paul's Boutique. I regret it now that I hear your review.  I got a pin Melon, Norah Jones and Abbey Road. The Abbey Road does have the Made in Germany sticker. I've got a few other Made in Czech records that have been good, seems when I get a Made in EU or Printed in EU that those are not so good. Hope to get time tonight to listen to my order.

The ones that just say "EU" tend to be mostly "grey market" pressings made from the same CD you can buy at WalMart.   I think they are deliberately vague.   Licensed releases tend to have more info.

Did anyone order a sgt peppers? All of the beatles were made in Germany, but my sgt peppers is a mono, everything else is stereo. Including the beach boys pet sounds, which crate & barrel showed as mono.

Yep.   They sure don't belong in the record business.
