Post by: Reverend on April 04, 2010, 10:50:22 AM: My stereo and HT system crammed into our little living room. My albums are in the dining room. Hopefully the new casa will have a man room.

Nessicity is the mother of invention. I wonder if you used the nears in your ht system if you could not simplify a little. If your ht system has front channel outputs or even stereo from your cable box run into the aux of your stereo would let them play as front speakers, though balancing the ht side may be a little difficult.

That being said, I respect anyone that will go to the lengths you have to have both surround and stereo.

Good luck with the new pad, are you moving soon?

Post by: Reverend on April 04, 2010, 11:21:14 AM: Thanks Dale. The HT system is running 7.1 off of the Pioneer Elite sitting on top of the stand. I tried running that in stereo and it doesn't sound good to me at all. I'm using the TFM-6CB to power the rear speakers.

I'd rather have two separate systems. I don't think having the NEARS run in conjunction with the little KLH cubes would sound very good but I haven't tried them. I'm trying out a TFM-25 from the shop but I was originally using a Crown amp. The Crown's built in protection would recognize if it was hooked up to a set of speakers that also had a path to another source. The only way around that I guess would be a speaker selector and I don't like the idea of another junction/connector that might create signal lose.

We've been in the process of house hunting for awhile now. One of the main factors of finding the perfect home would be to have a separate room for TV and one for just for a stereo setup. Thankfully I have a very understanding wife.

I wish I could isolate the 2 channel rig from the rest of the house a little better - you know to crank it up without disturbing the rest of the house. But, they are separate enough that my wife can enjoy the HT and I can enjoy the 2 channel rig.

Due to pressure from the Bride, finally gave up the perfectly good 15 year old TV for a Samsung 55 LED.

RevAmish seems to have it figured out.

Not getting into surround yet is kinda funny as I use a Carver 505 to bi-amp the LSi7s in my RedNeck bar, and a Carver 705 to bi-amp my Sunfire speakers on my deck.

I will get to it all soon, but these days prefer simple stereo.

Post by: Reverend on October 26, 2010, 04:33:07 PM: Just picked up a Sunfire Theater Grand Processor and i've had a few days to give it a listen. I had to play around with it a little bit. I found that in 2 channel mode with the Direct Signal setting engaged (bypasses the tone controls) this thing is incredible. It smoothed out some of the high shrills I was getting and the bass just kicks you right in the gut. I'm loving it.

No one bid on her and I was e-mailing back and forth with the seller asking him questions during the auction. It was his second/third time listing it so I made him an offer and he accepted. It has an iso-drive, and an upgraded/isolated power supply. It's close to mint condition with original manual/paperwork, remote and box. I lucked out.

That setup looks spectaculiar! Everybody like the vaneer on your TT. The acoustic panels are a very nice touch. I'd like to read about your experience on these panels affect on the sound quality.

My man cave is almost completely underground so there is cinder blocks, then wood stud, then cheap wood paneling. I find that my bass has a tendency to collect in weird areas and at times sound a bit noisy. These just cut down on the noise and give my sweet spot a much better controlled sound.

I have a question about your Apple TV. Do you use that to stream music, or is it like a Roku device for streaming movies only? I'm fairly ignorant about streaming music but I want to get something for Christmas. I'm looking at the Logic Squeezebox touch or the Sonos.

I have the first version AppleTV with an upgraded 160GB internal hard drive. It's synched to a media server I host in the house. Leaving iTunes open on the server, I can stream anything to the apple tv. I used it mainly for music. I don't notice a difference between what fits on the drive space and what is streamed ( I have 500GB+ music). It appears to be the same quality. I use the optical out into a DAC and notice a large improvement as compared to using the regular RCA outs. I have an app on my ipod touch that I use as a remote so I do not have to use my tv to view my audio menu, i can just select songs on the ipod touch and play. Iphones have the same app.

I also use it for video as well, running a hdmi cable to my tv. On the newer AppleTV's, you don't have a drive but you can stream/view your desktop which the older versions cannot.

I don't have any experience with a Squeezebox or other devices but i'm sure others on the forum can comment on their functionality.
