Title: Old Gateway desktop computer...
Post by: gdv on February 27, 2013, 01:02:33 PM
Anyone want my computer that died for parts?  Is/was a gateway 2003/4ish vintage...  The power supply was bad and gone, I'm keeping the hard drive (250 GB) as there is a lot of important info I need/want from it, the motherboard (not sure if good), and case are still available...  Otherwise, I'll just recycle it (give it to Tom Z)...  Tom do you even want it for recycling?

thanks,
George

Not even worth recycling.  Ten years old means that that the motherboard probably has IDE (SATA I at best), which is pretty much non-existent anymore.  The hard drive is probably on its way out too, so I'd be quick about getting those files (unless of course you replaced the hard drive already).  They primarily used Maxtor hard drives, which are the worst of the worst.  Most likely, the only things that might be salvageable are the ROM drives, and maybe the case, but none of it has any kind of real value unless you know someone who wants those parts.  Sorry man, but it's a paperweight.

Case will most likely be proprietary, (cus it's a friggin' Gateway),so the case is most likely useless as well.
