Title: Power conditioners in 2 channel systems??
Post by: bmwr75 on January 14, 2010, 09:14:40 AM
What do you guys think about using power conditioners (Monster, Panamax, Furman, etc.) in 2 channel listening systems?

I have a couple of Monster units and one Panamax unit, mainly because I need a bunch of plug receptacle for a system that includes a TT, phono preamp, amp, preamp, DAC, cd player.  Just as soon have a unit that occupies the bottom shelf of the A/V rack, instead of a power strip laying on the floor behind the rack.

Don't think the AC power at my house is noisy, I can't hear it anyway.

I was reading a tfm25 review the other day and the reviewer loved the amp after he put a line conditioner. Apparently the magnetic field design is especially susceptible to noise in the power supply. he went on to say that after the conditioner the amp opened up and it was like night and day.

I see you don't use carver amps, but I'm sure a conditioner would help any system. Dirty power is going to be translated to dirty or at least dirtier sound. Here's a link to that review... it's the second one down.

I use a power conditioner in my 2 channel and HT setups.  I do notice a slight difference in my 2 channel setup using one as compared to a power strip.  Might be because my amp is an old beast and loves the juice.  Most new ones (Monster brand) have a semi-cool led voltage display.

I have surge protection on my systems.  I want to get power conditioners also.  I am looking at a Tripplite that has a UPS built into it.  MSRP is $900 :o!

I use conditioners on everything. Two Monster,Two Tice, Two Power Wedge. Ed, a Monster Powerbar 1100 may fit your needs well. It can also be used to power up your M-500. I have one attached to my counter and it has done a nice job.

Very nice Kingman. I gotta try some of that Carver gear one of these days. I hear it is pretty damn good.

This was posted on the other forum and the guy sold it and all his other Carver stuff to a guy before I could get shipping price from him. I told him I sure would have liked to have had it. Guess what...he had ANOTHER he was saving. After about a week of thinking, he sold it to me. It sure looks nice with the other Carver gear I got. Plan on bringing it to the fest this year to see what Bob has to say about it.

There's only two companies that make power/surge products that are worth a crap, PS Audio and Shunyata.

Admittedly, I bought for the visual effect...why are the 2 you mentioned the only ones that are worth a crap?  ???
