Title: Album skipping
Post by: Jim Pittsburgh on July 14, 2014, 10:15:10 AM
I have an album that's skipping / sticking for no appearant reason.
No detectable scratches and I've cleaned it twice in the Spin Clean
and even a couple of attempts by hand. Any ideas? Solutions
Anyone have a better cleaner that they'd run it thru ? It's an little Milton album I really like

It's very possible that it's a flaw in the recording.  Tom and I have the same David Gilmore box set on vinyl.  There is a skip in two places, on two separate albums, at the very same spot.  Hopefully not.  I'm sure others will have some recommendations.

Did the skip just appear or has it always been like that?

I have an Audiophile pressing of a Diana Krull album that came with a skip when new. I returned it and the replacement had the same skip.  If you are willing to put the record at risk while attempting to make a clean copy, increased tracking weight might work, as might playing it wet.  Either approach may cause some wear or further damage to the disc

Krull > Krall
