Hey guys,
Issue popped up with laptop. When I login, it gives me a new temporary user account and very little functionality. I've looked online for solutions. Tried setting up new user but still gives new user temporary account and doesn't save files after logging off. Went into registry editor and changed name of backup account but still no luck. Don't want to have to set up complete new user account but will if last resort.
Can't do restore since the temp user account has no access to my real account. Any tips ideas or links will be appreciated
Thx
Mike

Might be a virus. Is your hard drive accessible without tearing the case apart? I'd probably pull it, scan with MalwareBytes and see what happens. Maybe once you know it's clean you could save your files to a back up drive, wipe that one and do a fresh install.

I ran Malwarebytes in safe mode and it found and quarentined 30 items, after which I was not even able to login thru the method which gave me a temporary profile, which was the original problem. I then went in thru safe mode and am backing up all the files I think I need. I am going to read about trying to re install but don't think this laptop came with a system disc but probably there is an option to go back to original environment. It's a seven year old toshiba laptop running Windows 7

Have you considered installing Linux? I've resurrected several old PCs and laptops that had become almost unusable running Windows. With Linux the machine runs like it was new. Linux Mint is very easy to install and as a bonus, it's free.

Hey Ron
I will consider it. Thanks for the suggestion. Can I give you a ring with a few questions?

Before I do anything drastic, And I think I have downloaded all music, photos and documents to my desktop, is there anything else that I might want to save that I have not thought about? I don't play games or have any other paid for software loaded. I figure I can reload the bookmarks and other things from the saved files and get the logins and passwords from the iPad that I use most of the time.

Buy a Mac! Had to say it, sorry. >:D XP was pretty much the last Windows I used daily so I can't be of any help.

Thanks to advice from rgpit I installed Linux and things seem good.
Also installed the Dynaco SCA 35 into the system and, after some issues, it seems good too.
Thanks again Ron!!
