Title: back in the burgh
Post by: ajaye on October 15, 2012, 08:14:02 PM
I haven't made it to the shop yet but found the sight several months back, just realized there was a forum too. I'm bored, if you're not you probably will be if you keep reading.

I'm Andrew. I grew up here but left 10 years ago and moved back last year (for now). When I was 12 my dad got sick of coming home to his 2nd rig volume 1/2 way up and the 4311s having walked a few inches from where they started. Off we went with my summer's worth of caddying money, $700 or $800 later I had a brand new, solid sounding setup of my own, a Denon AVR-xxx (its around here somewhere but its from 1992 and nothing special) and a pair of Polk LS50's which are still kickin'.

I have been DJing on and off for 11-12 years, and was a full time working jock for a couple years right before I moved back here. That said, most of the stack of audio stuff I have is vinyl/DJ related, but I am also enjoying some of the 24/96 remastered reissues of some of my favorite albums, I'm down with technology.  8)
I'm certainly into quality sound reproduction and "hi fi" but besides being poor, I have a somewhat unconventional philosophy on equipment/gear and the relationship between it and sound quality that I don't get into on the internet too much. I am also having a renewed interest in car audio and am working on 2 systems now for my enjoyment only.

A close friend of mine just came to visit this weekend after some training for her job was nearby and she is also holding estate sales for people a few days a week now, so needless to say she just got an email with a couple (dozen) things to keep her eyes open for. Hopefully I can luck out and land some stuff on the cheap, will probably be posting some of my current stuff up for trade here too. Mostly turntables. Look forward to contributing to the forum where I can.

Thanks guys. I've got a pretty decent digital modern music collection too and am happy to share/trade. Still working on a setup I think is exceptional enough to start archiving my records, I'm 32 now so hopefully before I'm 40 I'll settle on something.  :-\  I'm sure most of you know how that goes...you start out looking for a $200 fw interface and end up designing a completely dead cleanroom with dedicated service from the power company in your mind.

Welcome aboard Andrew!

I suppose you could do much worse than those 4311's.  ;D

Welcome aboard Andrew!

I suppose you could do much worse than those 4311's.  ;D

Yeah I finally pried them away from my dad for good, I need to rebuild the xovers and prob replace the lpads but at least with the b's the abuse I inflicted as a kid shouldn't come back to haunt me too badly, drivers are all in good shape except for one mid cap has a tiny dent. I wanna convert the Polks to active, and then keep those primarily in a 5.1 setup with my Paradigm center/satellites and reserve the 4311s for my 2 channel listening. I gave my dad my sub so I need to build a couple more of those...So many projects! Really like to find power amps first and foremost. ideally on trade for some of these extra 1200s I have. I might give up the Denon GT700/Miida for the right deal, I think its a sexy dd player though.
