Title: Electrostatic eperience
Post by: Slim-Shaddy on September 10, 2010, 07:51:00 AM
So, last night I picked up a pile of gear including a pair of Innersound Electrostatic speakers. After trying to solve a problem with the preamp and being unsuccessfull, I move on the the sunfire. While checking the right channel (which works Tom) I notice a buzz in the right speaker. I assume it's the metal cover, so I brace the front with my hand (no luck). I try to brack the back while my other hand is resting on the speakers and AAAAAAAAAAAAA. I find myself in the basement alone at 12:15 AM being shocked by a speaker and unable to let go. Finally my muscles convulsed enough to throw me from the thing, but I am typing with only my index on my right hand due to blisters.
Anyway, who wants a pair of really eye-opening speakers?

What model Sunfire is it?

Not sure. There is no model # on it, but I'm 99% sure it's the 600-2. The meter goes to 500 joules.

BTW I think it's funny that I post about almost dying and all the responses are about the amp.

Sorry...I did not read your full post.  Skimed it for info on the Sunfire.  If the meter goes to 500 it is a 600 wpc version.  Nice score!

That sucks you got zapped and the speakers didn't work out for you.  Sounds like you made out otherwise though  :o

Can we call you Sparky now?  Glad you are OK! Isn't electricity fun. :P  What is the problem with the pre? Post some pics of the complete speaker system from hell.

The pre is humming on both channels. I'm probably going to drop it off at Atlas tomorrow unless it's something you think you could fix.

I'm glad you're okay Ed. That must have been scary!!! :o

I have heard a couple different sets of Innersound speakers.  With an active crossover and proper amplification Innersounds are magical.  I like their sound better than comparable Martin Logan models.
