Title: Carver TFM 35x static issue
Post by: Slim-Shaddy on April 21, 2011, 01:38:35 PM
I'm just throwing this out there to see if anyone else has had a similar issue.
My TFM35x has one bad channel. While playing it will suddenly get very distorted to the point where it is hardly putting out any sound at all. To eliminate all other components I disconnected the interconnects and it puts out a slightly audible static crackle sound through only the faulty channel while idle. I even swapped speakers and it's still through the same channel. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know before I take it in for repair. The issue is something the amp has had since I bought it, but I just realized it was the amp today after swapping cd players (I was under the assumption the cd player was the faulty unit).
Thanks,
Ed

Shape-Shifter, there's only one thing left to do my friend............bring it to Tom at the shop.
There's no doubt in my mind that he'll know what to do. I apologize for not knowing what's causing the problem myself, Sir.

Ed, the only thing to try is de-oxit. Spray everything inside but the plastic liberally with it and let it dry a while. Then try again. If not, Tom's the answer.

The first thing to look for is a cold solder joint.

Where on the board should I look and which board should I look at?

You'll want to look at the bottom of the boards where the solder is at.

Finding a cold solder joint is not always easy. A good solder joint is shiny, a bad one is dull/flat.
