I am going to get a good antenna here soon and pretty psyched to find some good am/fm. Was thinking we could kind of compile a list.. Ill start off with something skin deep:
Little Steven's Underground Garage -- 102.5 -- Sunday nights from 10:00-12:00 -- Ranging from 50s-current underground rock/deeper cuts/interesting commentary regarding the MUSIC -- not steelers BS.
There was also another program I had found one sunday night, havnt found it since. It was a lower freq like 88.1 or something and the DJ played new wave/punk/80s, stuff liek that. Cant rememer his name at this time unfortunatly.
Doesn't have to be rock I like listening to Jazz/rock/latin/classical/whatever.. If you have some cool stations, LIST THEM -- turn us on and tune us in!

Anything left of 92 is always a safe bet.

It KILLS me that nobody in Pittsburgh carries "Live from Mountain Stage". One specialty show that I can recommend is "etown". I used to listen to it all the time before it moved to Saturday @ 6 friggin' AM on WYEP, but if you have a setup to record (or if you have to be up at that hour for some reason) I always find it to be an enjoyable listen.

"Viva Le Mock" on WRCT 88.3? It's actually on Friday nights, but sounds like the show you are describing. RCT (CMU radio) carries a lot of diverse music programming as well as "Democracy Now" (the last unbiased source of news on the radio).

If you like old funk, etc. my buddy Mike hosts a great show on Saturdays on 91.3, called The Soul Show.

If you have a tuner that receives HD (hybrid digital) following 3 stations are awesome:
89.3 HD-1 / WQED FM HD-1 / Classical
89.3 HD-2 / WQED FM HD-2 / Classical, Pittsburgh Concert Channel
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra & River City Brass Band concerts
90.5 HD-2 / WESA FM HD-2 / Jazz
All 3 of above have awesome programming. Great for recording.

The 88.1 station your talking about was a pirate station. I went to school with the kid. Got caught by the man but he was under the wattage and they couldn't touch him. I will see if I can find out what happened but I don't think he lives in the state anymore

Another vote for the Soul Show on WYEP from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Saturdays, followed by an evening of Blues.
