I fixed on up about 2 years ago. I got this unit from a friend of mine who bought it new in 1979 and kept it all those years. He took good care of his stuff. I found it in the garage along with the remainder of his belongings after he departed this Earth to go be with Jesus. My other friends (owners of the house) were going to give it to Goodwill. It had a few problems. The rectifier diodes for the +9VDC power supply to the AM/FM tuner were shorted. Also transistor Q10 in that regulator was wide between base and emitter. There was a cracked solder joint on one side of the "Tone" pot that was stopping the audio path from getting to the finals. Then a lot of the lights were burned out, and also the face plate needed a good cleaning. I think the top ridge of the cabinet got the marks from when my friends just stuffed it in the garage thinking it was something that needed to be thrown out. Honestly I think I spent about 100 hours working on this, and it was my first restoration project. I'm an RF technician (HF/VHF/UHF) and I also bought the service manual on disc to help with the troubleshooting. I got some good tips from guys on Audio Karma. The holder for the front panel lamps was burned, and I repaired all the holes with aluminum tape. I wasn't able to align the FM/AM tuner because I did not have a modulated signal generator. But after I got her all together the first song I played was "Once in a Lifetime" off of Chicago 17. It was driving a pair of Marantz Imperial 6 speakers and man did it ever come through on that trumpet part of the song when they really hit that note. The FM tuner works just fine although it can be a little microphonic when I touch the main tuning dial for some reason. I wanted to recap the audio path, but after spending so much time and money on it and gathering up the parts from all over the U.S., I decided to send it to my brother in Cincinnati.
