Post by: non-prophet on November 22, 2010, 05:25:25 PM
I have a clean working Hk PM-655, integrated amp.  Rated at 60wpc, can be used as a preamp only and has both phono inputs.  Looks and sound great.  $60  Nick

Never listened to the Maggie Tympanis - are you happy with them?

They are fantastic, very vocal, until I powered them with a pair of carver silver 7t's.  Now I need to rebuild them, but thats not a bad thing.  They are being refinished in hardwood to look more like speakers instead of a 70s room divider.

What blew?  The Maggies could not the power?

Rebuilding Maggies s a bit of a pain in the rear,  I have done a pair myself and it requires tons of patience (not my strength).  But the result is worth it. Take time to remove the old glue before laying the new wires - and note that you will get a buzz from the acetone if you work in a confined space - that could be good or bad,  depends on your point of view.  Less is better when applying new glue to the new wire.  And get lots of washers to hold down the wires while the glue sets.

Maggie sound kicks ass.  Too bad their spousal acceptance factor is low.

Good luck,

Pepe
