Title: My second RT-707
Post by: OldiesButGoodies on May 01, 2011, 05:34:32 PM
This weekend I scored a minty RT-707; a one-owner unit purchased in 1980 along with several reels of prerecorded music and the original owners manual and Pioneer "light" metal take-up reel.  It is in excellent condition and so far sounds fantastic.  Will report as I discover its capabilities (I was never able to get my previous RT-707 to sound its best - it is somewhere in Colorado now getting tuned by someone more patient than I).  This one is a time capsule. Great seller too - a class act.

Is this the one that was on CL a few days ago? Nice score! Especially considering you got the empty reel, those things can be expensive.

Yes - that one.  and the thing is that it was clearly well taken care of - it looks great.  And the PR-85 light metal take up reel is a big plus.  I will take it to the store next week for demagnetizing (I should probably start looking for a demag tool, since it appears I am addicted to tape decks).

Hey - any one have a demag tool for sale?
 ;)

Does Tom provide that service at the shop? I would like to get my 909 demaged.

Haha - for a moment I read that as "I want my 909 damaged"

My theory is that with Anders on board he can do a lot more things,  just make sure you bring cash!   ;D

I have heard people on the board talking about him. Is Anders a good tech?

I cannot vouch for Anders reel-to-reel expertise,  but he resuscitated a Heathkit tuner I sure thought was dead.  Had to replace a lot of parts to un-flat-line it. I can say he is a smart tech - make that brilliant - since he will probably read this!!

I've only been working on this stuff for 30 years.
Yes I do reel to reels also.
I even own a few nice ones that were broken when I got them but work fine now. (RT-909)
