Scared the shit out of me because I had flipped a log over & didn't notice him right away. I was stepping all around him. Good thing he wasn't up to temp or he'd have nailed me. I killed him as there were about a dozen kids playing nearby & didn't have a good spot to release him anywhere distant. I don't usually like to kill snakes, but I didn't want to take a chance with a Copperhead.

Holy moley! How long is that thing?

He was about 18 inches. They don't usually get very big, maybe 28 inches.
However, I found one about 7 years ago that was almost 5 feet! He was a monster.

It's really too bad you had to kill it, but very understandable. How did it taste? :D

This is why everyone needs to carry a pistol.....

Seriously? A pistol for an 18" snake? Shovel worked just fine.....

Beautiful snake. Glad you were ok, that could have been a bad situation.

...it could have been the larger one you talked about. Personally I don't want to get too close to that snake even though I used to have a few as pets. ???

Kingman, by chance do you happen to remember smelling cucumber before you discovered the Copperhead ? I was always told that if you smell cucumber out in the woods to watchout because there's a Copperhead around.........
Just curious Kingman to see if you recall that, or not ? I'm glad you're ok.-------Bill
