one turntable, one tube amp, one speaker...no interconnects
Seriously, I am in love with this thing which is creating another problem. A Garrard 88/4 followed me home today

Old stuff is cool. What's the tracking weight on that tonearm?

Nifty :)

I grew up with one of those. Many fond memories, but I don't miss it.

Very cool! 8)

I have some of those but they need some work.

I love this thing, I have two of them and I think I found a local guy to work on some vintage stuff. I am hoping he can work on these when he is done with my radio.

I'd really like to set one up with a modern cartridge like this guy above is talking about. I also played with my new Garrard auto changer.....then I listened to my Dual on the Carver mono blocks. Not even close. Makes you appreciate how much audio has come.
But the auto changers are still fun to play with.

Brought my 45EY2 RCA 45 player to the shop and cleaned it up and its working now but the Astatic 81T needle I put in it is now bad.
I noticed that yours has the same buzzy flutter distortion that mine has.

Well, it is very much like weighing gold, one penny weight or two penny weight.
Seriously, I dunno, guess i could measure it.
Anders, yep mine buzzes too. I would expect much of the electronics need to be freshened up. There is a guy selling capacitor kits on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190522837661?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/190522837661?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649)
I would think there are three areas that could be cleaned up of improved upon. New 1) New caps, 2) new cartridige and 3) the speaker.
I have a second that mostly works except it hums. I think the speaker connection came loose. It looks like the little pot metal rivet has disintegrated.
If you are interested, I could send you this second one to use as a guinea pig for refurbing. I would be interested in having you install the above listed cap kit, upgrading the needle and seeing if anything can be done with the speaker. From what I have read it's an odd shape and it's difficult to re-cone.
That way Brian can buy one to send to you so he can have one too ;)
it will fade with time....I know.
Yes Kingman, I am sure it will fade like your Carver hoarding has :P.
Isn't there a tv show, for which, we should submit your name ?

Sure i'd like to work on another one.
I think I already recapped mine and restored the rubber parts as well as putting an old Astatic cartridge in which i guess is the weak link right now.

Hi Anders,
I was hoping you'd want to take a swag at this. Sorry for the slow response, had to go to Tampa a couple weeks ago for a week for work, then had to play catch up, then my appendix decided it was time to come out so I am still a little foggy and sore from that experience.
Hopefully in a couple days I can get this boxed up and on it's way to you.
Thanks
Tinpan
